Digital billboards are practically ubiquitous among college campuses now. They're a helpful tool to get information to students but they also require regular upkeep to keep their content fresh. With limited staff and time, we found that ours were often becoming stagnant. Learn how the Web/Marketing department at Jamestown Community College created a self-updating web-based solution, based on Ruby on Rails, React, CSS animations, and Raspberry Pi, to automatically pull information from a configurable list of social media services and display it with a simple, eye-catching design.

Adam Gould
Web Technologist, Jamestown Community College

Adam Gould has been developing websites and applications since high school. He obtained a degree in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and worked for several years in the software industry in New York City. In a series of loosely-planned events, he decided to move back to his hometown, Jamestown, NY, where he eventually began working for the local community college as a Web Technologist. He has been there almost 4 years now, developing new web-based systems that help his college serve their students and stay innovative.
